Extra Information
  • Add MS 31,697 might be seen as a scrapbook with 7 parts. Mostly it contains scores for Viola da Gamba and bass, but also some items are just for Viola da Gamba solo.
  • Some of the folios are autographs (ff.3-9v). There are some insertions, like the signature from "Eliza: Pembroke" (f.45r), the writing later on (1835) from a [Mr.] Cheeseman, engraver and violist (f.2r) and also later on the adding "Composed for the Lady Pembroke" (f.8r).
  • The Fourteen Sonatas contain 15 Sonatas. Maybe "'Fourteen Sonatas' (with a 15th inserted between nos. 13 and 14)..." (British Library) [rebound?] or it was simply forgotten to mention the 14th Sonata by entitling the Sonata 15 as No.14.
  • WKO, WK or just K are used for Knape's catalogue numbers, the work of Walter Knape (1906-2000); a new catalogue revision is available from Peter Holman and Günter von Zadow.
