No. 5 (Arioso, Sing on, there in the swamp) is an orchestration of one of the Nine English Songs. Hindemith performed the prelude numerous times as a separate concert item. Baritone soloist in the premiere performance better known as George London, and sang the same part under the latter name on Hindemith's recording for Columbia.
