Viola list

Hello Peter, You are absolute right about the viola list. I should have discussed it first. My apologies. Hrdinský 03:25, 3 September 2009 (UTC)

"Translator" permissions

Hello, Peter.

May I ask you for me to have "translator" permissions, so that I can edit the MediaWiki message pages directly? Sometimes I'd like to add Japanese translations to them.--Supertchan 08:29, 7 September 2009 (UTC)

Hi Peter. Go ahead and make Supertchan an Admin, as per the forum discussion.-- Snailey Talk to Me Email me 12:21, 7 September 2009 (UTC)
Just a moment... how do I do this again...--Peter talk 19:37, 7 September 2009 (UTC)

All appropriate changes made.-- Snailey Talk to Me Email me 19:41, 7 September 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for all your kindness!--Supertchan 23:16, 7 September 2009 (UTC)

Music Publishers

I'm very sorry about Music Publishers! It was careless mistake. Thanks for your warning.--Supertchan 01:43, 14 September 2009 (UTC)

No problem! --Peter talk 07:19, 14 September 2009 (UTC)

Handel Scores

Hi Peter, these are the CD Sheet Music scores that were uploaded on the FTP server. Sometimes they forgot to erase all the plate numbers, so I've added those if I find them, but I don't have any more information on them. (They are definitely Public Domain, otherwise they would not have been able to make CD's of them to sell.) Operalala 21:00, 21 September 2009 (UTC)

Finnish translation of main page

Hey Peter,

I asked Carolus about adding the Finnish translated main page to the list of languages (Etusivu), and I wasn't sure whether it would be better to have the IMSLP-links in the translated page linking to the English translations of pages, or whether I should have them as red links, linking to the creation of the respective Finnish pages - so Carolus suggested I ask some other admins for their opinion :) (I am asking Perlnerd, Daphnis, and you - I have asked the same question exactly to all of you)

Let me know what you think - on a sidenote, my Finnish is sloppy to say the best, so we would have to find a native Finnish speaker to do the translations of the pages, as my translations of the titles might not be accurate or correct.

-jujimufu 17:13, 16 October 2009 (UTC)

From the experience with other translations, I can very easily advise to link to English pages. Most, if not all translations, experience a short-lived interest after one person translates the main page and some other pages, but die soon afterwards: the red links never get blue and the mainpage gets outdated. So if you do not have immediate plans for translating a redlinked page, link to the English page. I would even dare to advice against a translation itself if you are the only finnish-speaking in the active community.--Peter talk 22:02, 16 October 2009 (UTC)
User Käkki is a native Finnish speaker, and has agreed to help with the translations. Once we start the most important pages, I will send an e-mail around my university (which is full of Finnish-speaking people) and ask if anyone would want to contribute to the translations by translating maybe one paragraph. If half the people translated one paragraph, the Finnish translation of the website would be over in a couple of days! :) I'll let you know how it goes.
Also, Finnish's ISO code is fi, but the language itself is Suomi. Where would it go in the list of languages? The rest of the languages are sorted according to their ISO code, but it would be silly to have Suomi appear next to Français, but putting a "fi" iso code in a non-alphabetical order might cause problems (I remember being told that when using IFLAND we should always put the language codes in alphabetical order).
Is someone putting a link on the main page? I asked Carolus yesterday, but it's not there yet. Also, we may need to re-design the main page, because there are too many languages now and in a 1024x768 screen they look a bit squashed (at least on Firefox, under both Mac and Windows). -jujimufu 10:48, 17 October 2009 (UTC)
OK great. ALthough an important issue in the translation is the updating of the translations when the English versions get updated. We had to delete a nice translated homepage once because it was hopelessly outdated. I'll add a link on the main page, but there's a bug preventing adding the link to the left pane and to autoselection based on browser's language. --Peter talk 14:51, 17 October 2009 (UTC)
Ask Leonard for lay-out issues--Peter talk 14:56, 17 October 2009 (UTC)
Ok, thanks a lot. I'll ask him.
Also, do you have any idea why "Etusivu" is appearing at the top of the Finnish main page? ("Etusivu" means "main page" in Finnish, but it shouldn't appear there, just on the title).
Thanks again!
-jujimufu 17:12, 17 October 2009 (UTC)
P.S. On an irrelevant note, do you know what happened to the MIT project? Carolus said that you may have finished it or are close to finishing it. Let me know if you need any help :)
Etusivu is the page title which is displayed standardly on each wiki page. For each translated homepage there should be a code in the style sheet to disable it - also ask Leonard. The MIT project is indeed nearing completion - all letters have been processed by uploaders. I'm just rechecking everything and updating some newly entered public domain works, but 99% has been uploaded. It's just on a low priority for me right now! --Peter talk 08:37, 18 October 2009 (UTC)

Vinzenz Lachner

I found an (I think?) uncopyrighted page, at Sibley, to add to Category:Lachner, Vinzenz - is this a good reason to undelete it? (Which I can't do or don't know how to, so I'd have to ask you or someone to do so, also...) Thank you for your time anycase of course! Eric 10:11, 17 October 2009 (UTC) (forgot to look at Lachner, Vincenz. Never mind!) Eric 10:26, 17 October 2009 (UTC) )

Done

Can categories redirect? I think so but am not sure. That's all that's necessary now, I think- a redir to Category:Lachner, Vincenz (would removing the imslpcomposer block and including the same redirect template as in Wikipedia do it? If so, can do so myself of course. Sorry about the trouble, sir) Eric 15:06, 17 October 2009 (UTC)

Apparently it works. Just make sure not to include any works under the redirecting category. Best regards Peter talk 08:40, 18 October 2009 (UTC)

Halvorsen, Johan

Hello Peter, I believe that the newly added Sarabande is a different piece from that of the Passacaglia. All the best and keep up the great work you are doing here!!! Generoso 16:31, 9 November 2009 (UTC)

Sorry! That is a stupid mistake. Reverted --Peter talk 19:57, 9 November 2009 (UTC)

Symphony No.2 (Beethoven)

Peter, I don't see how Beethoven's piano trios have anything to do with his second symphony... ClassicalComposers 23:17, 13 December 2009 (UTC)

Probably because he created his own arrangement of the symphony for piano trio. KGill talk email 23:27, 13 December 2009 (UTC)
Indeed. It is a lesser known work. I wrote 'arrangement' next to it. The same with the septet. --Peter talk 08:50, 14 December 2009 (UTC)

Translator Status

Dear Peter, may I ask for privileges as a translator? I would like to translate special pages from English to Chinese (traditional and simplified). As you can see, there are currently no Chinese translators. Thank you for your consideration! ClassicalComposers 00:23, 3 January 2010 (UTC)

Please, reply if you have any opinions :) I take this seriously :) ClassicalComposers 17:18, 4 January 2010 (UTC)
sorry, I don't administer translators. Please await Leonard's answer. --Peter talk 20:26, 4 January 2010 (UTC)
Thanks anyway. Feldmahler took care of it :) ClassicalComposers 20:47, 4 January 2010 (UTC)

Welcome back Peter! Thanks for your interest in the tagging project, and we can always use another knowledgeable memner on the team. The instructions are at IMSLP:Tagging, and it's probably best to read through those first and then let me know if you have any questions. IMSLP:Categorization/Project Members shows who's tackling what, and the discussion tab on that page is where we discuss any issues arising (of which there are quite a few).

The category walker isn't fully operational yet, and only activated the featured instruments section has been set up as a test. Feldmahler wants to wait until at least 50% of works are tagged before we start rolling out the rest, after which people will be able to search by combinations of instruments, work types, languages, etc. At this moment 38% of works have been tagged, at just under 5 weeks into the project.

I hope that makes sense, but feel free to ask if there's anything else you need to know... — P.davydov 16:26, 7 February 2010 (UTC)

Arrangement headings

Hi Peter. While you were away last month, Feldmahler introdued a system of automated tags for arrangement headings, so that, for example a page containing the heading "=====For Piano 4 hands=====" will be recognised as containing an arrangement for piano 4 hands, and placed in the appropriate category.

I noticed on some of your recent updates that you've been using headings at a higher level for arrangements, which means they aren't being recognised by the autotagger. Could you ensure that they are all level 5 (i.e. with five equals signs), so that they're interpreted corectly? Thanks — P.davydov 19:07, 26 February 2010 (UTC)

Thanks, I was not aware of the modalities of this system. I didn't know that it had to be within a strict level system, I now looked back at IMSLP:Score submission guide/Layout of Work Pages to have the system back in mind!--Peter talk 20:03, 26 February 2010 (UTC)
That's always a useful page! BTW, I was able to confirm that Langer did the 4-hand arrangement of the Nutrcacker suite, so I altered the information accordingly — P.davydov 20:25, 26 February 2010 (UTC)
Yes, and if you're sure it's Langer then I'm sure it's Schirmer so I removed the last square brackets.--Peter talk 20:51, 26 February 2010 (UTC)
By the way, is there a specific reason for the big-to-small-instrumentation order of transcriptions? I often have the feeling it should be the opposite, i.e. what is most looked for is in most of the cases the smallest transcription (in chamber music) and should go on top. Now you have to go through piano 8 hands, cello quartet, saxophone quartet, kazoo harp and castanets, piano six hands, piano four hands, to get to a simple piano transcription of a string quintet or a symphony.--Peter talk 20:14, 26 February 2010 (UTC)
This has been the practice for a couple of years now, and I don't remember the reasoning, except that orchestral scores generally appear at the top of the page anyway, so it's a logical progression to put the transcriptions below in descending order. The contents box at the top allows people to see immediately what's available, and to jump straight to any section they want — P.davydov 20:25, 26 February 2010 (UTC)
Of course, it's the way it is accustomed now, I was just curious.--Peter talk 20:51, 26 February 2010 (UTC)

Dear Peter, can I ask you to lock permanently my old account Andy Osnard? Thanks. Bye. --Gnumarcoo 19:31, 28 March 2010 (UTC)

Frank Choisy

Hi Peter, I think DIGMA is probably wrong here - according to BNF, he died in 1966. (Incidentally, DIGMA gets a number of other details wrong - he was actually born in Ghent. However, I know it's the same person because their article mentions that he was the director of Geneva's Conservatoire Populaire de Musique.) Thanks, KGill talk email 17:37, 13 June 2010 (UTC)

Missing page

Dear Peter, I printed off your scan of Bach's Prelude and Fugue in Eb for organ (BWV 552, St. Anne) and realised that page 178 from the prelude is missing and page 187 from a different piece takes its place. If you have the missing page please could you upload it when you have the time? Thanks, M.J. Heywood 19:21, 18 June 2010

The BGA is not scanned by me, so I can't help you, sorry. --Peter talk 18:56, 18 June 2010 (UTC)

orphaned files without thumbnails

did you mean File:Bach_-_BGA_-_BWV_589.png and File:Bach - BGA - BWV 590.png to be deleted? remember the {{delete}} template you can put on them or in their talk pages... (actually, this may be moot by the time I press save page) Eric 00:55, 5 January 2011 (UTC)

Bach CPE H.388

Hi Peter,

you've got uploaded the file: Fugue_in_C_major,_H.388_(Bach,_Carl_Philipp_Emanuel) but the List of Compositions by Helm says: H 388 Le flegmatique en colère for keyboard in G minor. What is correct??? --TobisNotenarchiv 21:58, 5 January 2011 (UTC)

When renaming this workpage I found some mistakes in the Helm numbers on the Wikipedia work list, and all those deriving from it (including the one on IMSLP). The lists at www.uquebec.ca/musique/catal/baccp/baccpindh.html and www.unc.edu/~dlschule/cpebwq2h.html are more reliable, and they show the Fugue at H.388 and "Le flegmatique en colère" as H.393.3 — P.davydov 22:12, 5 January 2011 (UTC)

List of compositions by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, by genre

Hi Peter,

I have linked all not yet linked files to the above mentioned List of compositions by genre as far as they were on your list. Now I have 2 questions: 1. Will you complete the list? 2. Why didn't you use the Categories from the Koechel work list by genre (Vocal music (masses, litanies, other sacred vocal works, cantatas and oratorios, operas, arias...), Instrumental music (ouvertures, symphonies, cassations, marches, ...) The list of not linked files is still very long: Maintenance/Worklists --TobisNotenarchiv 21:27, 14 August 2011 (UTC)

this is a very long time ago - see page history. I won't complete this Peter talk 14:54, 15 August 2011 (UTC)

Localization using translatewiki.net

Hi Peter, I'd like to translate some interface texts into Catalan, but I cannot figure out how to do it. I have been researching a bit the subject and I stubled upon this tool which could come handy for me and many other translators: TranslateWiki. Do you think it would be possible to use it here at IMSLP? --Micru 21:12, 15 September 2011 (UTC)
