This movement and the movement in F major, CNW 51 was probably part of an early string quartet performed in January 1888. In a letter, Nielsen refers to a quartet that he showed to his teacher, Orla Rosenhoff, in late 1887. A string quartet by Nielsen in F was performed at The Private Chamber Music Society; however, it has not been possible to determine which of the surviving movements were part of the quartet performed (assuming that the quartet performed has survived at all.)

Not to be confused in any case with his later string quartet in F major "Piacevolezza", Op.19 (1906) (which was revised, in turn, as Quartet No.4, Op.44.)
