Although a French-born composer (but not French-bred), the latter does not consider this work to fit snugly within the symphonic organ French tradition, which is why he has named it differently from his illustrious French predecessors. The movements also differ in the sense that they are more akin to fantasias than structurally organized sonata-like movements. The composer has always favoured splitting his compositions into sub-sections, with never the slightest need to sketch out the outline of his pieces beforehand. He gives a free rein to his inspiration, and the music flows freely, spontaneously, opens by chance and ends by surprise.
