Though this specifically says "for piano" and does not mention voice, the lyrics are given, not in the music itself, but in verses before the music starts. This would make it seem like the intention is not to sing along, since most people would not know where to fit the syllables, so it seems the verses are put in so the player knows what general character the folksong has.
