The editor has based his edition on the three copies preserved in the British Museum published three years after the composer's death (1782), and used a contemporary arrangement for violin and piano by John Christian Luther (?-1789) for comparison. The keyboard part is marked "obligato" except in the figured parts and was marked for harpsichord only, but the piano may be preferred, if only for stylistic and historical reasons, on account of the composer's avowed preference for the pianoforte.
