History

Howley, Haviland & Co. was a leading publisher of sheet music for the United States "Tin Pan Alley" music industry.

It was established in New York City in 1894 by Haviland (d 1932) and Howley, and continued until 1906. It published two main genres of popular song: the tearjerker and the coon song. Sales were increased by eye-catching covers by Bert Cobb (1869-1930) and Edgar Keller (1867-1932) F.B. Haviland continued the business on his own from 1906 to 1932.
