It seems (from AMZ's review) that in the first (Leipzig) performance there were only 7 choruses (Nos. 1, 2, 5-6, 6b-7, 8-8a, 11 & 12) and overture (this means that the Sixth chorus had no music). So this Berlin manuscript may be a later compilation, though undoubtly used for performances (acc. to Axel Schröter, there are more manuscripts with this set of choruses; e.g. a Stuttgart codex). Even the date on the last page (which is partly lost: 18xx) may be the date of copying of only that initial set.

  1. The author of No. 2 is not identified in the score (it reads: 'von Agm:'). AMZ calls him 'Hr. C. Schulz, ein junger privatisierende Musiker in Leipzig'. And so it is elsewhere. But in D-Hs's site Carl David Stegmann is stated instead of this.
  2. The author of the two Valses (Nos. 8b & 9a) is not identified.
  3. The name of the author of the Sixth chorus (No. 9) seems to have been added in the score later. Yet it is hardly readable. D-Hs suggests a Schäfer, but this is a fault: the fifth letter doesn't seem to be an F and the fourth is U (Gothic coursive is sometimes not easy to read: e.g. D-Hs has Franz instead of Kranz in No. 8). It's rather a Schuster (acc. to Axel Schröter, Joseph Schuster).
  4. The Finale chorus (No. 12) begins with lines (Der Gott, zu dem wir riefen) that can not be found in Kotzebue's play (at least in 1803 printed text), but soon proceeds to the real beginning of the chorus (Es drohten vierzigtausend Krieger).

Schröter lists Friedrich Ludwig Aemilius Kunzen for the Fourth chorus (instead of Ignaz Walter).
